About 桜月荘

About meals

About Sakurajima

Sakurajima is a rare type of composite volcano, approximately 1,117m high (Mount Kita-dake/O-dake), with a circumference of about 36km, formed some 26,000 years ago, consisting of two main peaks (Kita-dake and Minami-dake), and which still emits smoke and ash. Approximately 3,500 people currently live at its foot.

It rains, it snows, and ash falls from the sky. In Kagoshima, where volcanoes erupt almost every day, these are all part of everyday life.

The extraordinary sight of Mount Sakurajima billowing smoke is truly breathtaking. From the Aira Lava Flow Observation Deck, you can fully appreciate the majestic presence of Mount Sakurajima, including the sound of the erupting steam.

Throughout history, Kagoshima has always shared its history with Mount Sakurajima.

Many historical figures, literary figures, and other notable individuals have been captivated by Kagoshima and have come to see Mount Sakurajima.

In recent years, more and more people have been drawn to Sakurajima and are actively working to revitalize the island, organizing events like farmers' markets, making it an interesting place that is constantly evolving and changing.

To ensure your comfort during your stay

Our guesthouse is a place where travelers who meet each other by chance can share a common space. Guests have their own individual schedules; some may leave before sunrise, while others may prefer to relax and take their time.

Due to the building's structure, sounds tend to echo easily, so we kindly ask our guests to keep noise to a minimum after 10 PM. This will allow you to have a restful night and start your next day's journey refreshed and energized.

There is no curfew after check-in, but if you plan to leave or return to your room late at night, please be considerate of other guests and those in neighboring rooms to avoid causing any disturbance.

Here are some tips for staying in a dormitory room!

  • Make sure to place your toiletries, cosmetics, and change of clothes in the storage area next to your pillow beforehand.
  • 今は使わない貴重品などはセキュリティボックスに入れておこう
  • Let's make good use of the luggage hook.
  • Set the alarm clock to silent mode and place it under your pillow.
  • Please open and close doors and move around quietly after the lights are off.
